On the Blue Line
UNIFIL Eastern Sector, Lebanon El Khiam / Marjayoun
These images were made during patrol operations conducted by the Spanish Battalion (SPANBATT) along the Blue Line in UNIFIL's Eastern Sector. The photographs document armored patrols, border observation posts, and coordination activities in the El Khiam district, operating from Miguel de Cervantes Base in Marjayoun.
The buffer zone visible in these images — the terrain separating Lebanese and Israeli-held positions monitored by UNIFIL under Security Council Resolution 1701 — returned to international attention following the outbreak of hostilities in southern Lebanon in October 2023. These photographs are a record of that ground, and of the peacekeepers who held it.
